Kisspeptin-10 and Kisspeptin-54 are related fragments derived from the KISS1 precursor. The numbers describe peptide length: ten amino acids and 54 amino acids respectively. Both are discussed in KISS1R receptor research, but they are distinct molecular materials.
Kisspeptin-10 corresponds to the C-terminal ten-residue segment of Kisspeptin-54. Fragment numbering should always identify the parent sequence used, because literature and supplier naming conventions may differ.
| Feature | Kisspeptin-10 | Kisspeptin-54 |
|---|---|---|
| Peptide length | 10 amino acids | 54 amino acids |
| Relationship | Short C-terminal fragment | Longer related peptide containing that terminal region |
| Research identity checks | Confirm sequence, terminal chemistry and batch | Confirm sequence, terminal chemistry and batch |
| Interpreting potency | Depends on the assay and endpoint | Depends on the assay and endpoint |
| Interpreting stability | Requires evidence under the stated conditions | Requires evidence under the stated conditions |
Potency is measured in a particular assay. A receptor-binding measurement, a calcium response and a downstream gene-expression result answer different questions. Receptor expression, assay timing and material quality can also influence the comparison.
A statement that two fragments behave similarly in one system is not proof that they are identical across all systems. Do not turn a single endpoint into a universal ranking.
Peptide stability depends on the matrix, temperature, pH, handling history and analytical method. Comparisons should state what was measured and when. A result in one experimental matrix does not establish a general shelf life for a supplied vial.
For reproducible records, distinguish chromatographic purity, identity, peptide content and degradation measurements. These terms describe different aspects of the material.
These are reading and record-keeping points, not an experimental protocol.
Is Kisspeptin-10 simply another name for Kisspeptin-54?
No. They have different chain lengths and should be identified separately.
Is the longer peptide always more stable?
That cannot be assumed. A meaningful comparison needs matching conditions and an appropriate analytical method.
Can equal mass be treated as equal numbers of molecules?
No. Different molecular masses mean equal masses need not contain equal molecular amounts. This observation is not preparation or application guidance.
Does Corex currently list either as a product?
This article does not announce a product launch. Check the current catalogue for availability; an educational page or video is not a stock listing.
